1. About money4dentists
What makes money4dentists different from other financial advisers?
We specialise exclusively in the dental profession. For over 20 years we’ve advised dentists on everything from NHS Pensions to practice ownership and protection. This means we understand the unique career paths, income patterns and regulatory environment you face. We’re also fully independent, which means our advice is impartial and based solely on your needs.
Are you independent or tied to certain providers?
We’re independent financial advisers (IFAs). We’re not tied to any one product provider or bank. This allows us to recommend the most suitable solutions from across the whole market.
How do you charge for your services?
We believe in being fair and transparent about our fees. All costs are agreed with you in advance — there are no hidden charges. Typically, we have an initial charge for our recommendations and any implementation work, and an ongoing charge for ongoing advice, annual reviews and support. If you join our M4D Client Plan, some of our services are bundled into one clear annual fee and other services are discounted.
We’ll always explain your options, provide a written fee agreement before any work starts, and make sure you’re comfortable with the cost and value of our service.
Will you liaise with my accountant or solicitor?
Yes. With your permission we can work directly with your other advisers — accountants, solicitors, mortgage brokers — to ensure your finances are joined up and nothing gets missed.
2. NHS Pension & Retirement Planning
How do the NHS Pension sections (1995, 2008, 2015) affect dentists?
Many dentists have built up benefits in more than one section. Each has different retirement ages, accrual rates and calculation methods. We forecast your benefits under each and show how they combine at retirement.
What is the McCloud Remedy and how might it affect me?
The McCloud Remedy addresses age discrimination issues between the 1995/2008 and 2015 NHS Pension sections. It gives you a choice at retirement about which benefits to take for the period 2015–2022. We analyse how this will affect your benefits and your tax position.
When can I take my NHS Pension benefits?
It depends on your section, your service record and whether you take early or phased retirement. We model different scenarios so you can plan with confidence.
Can you review my NHS Pension with private pensions?
Yes. We review your private pensions, SIPPs, ISAs and other investments alongside your NHS benefits, so you get a complete retirement picture.
3. Protection & Insurance
Do dentists really need income protection if they have NHS sick pay?
Many dentists have some NHS sick pay, but it’s usually time-limited. Income protection tailored to dentists ensures you still receive an income if illness or injury stops you working once NHS sick pay ends.
What kind of protection is most important for dentists?
It depends on your role. Associates often prioritise income protection and life cover. Practice owners may also need partnership protection, overheads insurance and key person cover to protect the business.
What’s “own occupation” income protection and why does it matter?
“Own occupation” means the policy pays if you’re unable to do your specific job as a dentist, rather than any job at all. This is vital for dental professionals because your skills are highly specialised.
4. Mortgages & Practice Finance
Can dentists get special mortgage deals?
Some lenders do offer more favourable terms for dental professionals because of their career stability and earnings potential. Our partners at Mortgages4Dentists know which lenders understand dentists and can secure more flexible underwriting.
How does self-employment or being a Limited Company affect my borrowing?
Lenders view self-employed or company income differently from PAYE salaries. We help you present your income and accounts to lenders in the best way and choose lenders familiar with dental professionals.
Can you help with finance for buying a practice?
Yes. We work with specialist dental lenders to secure loans for practice purchase, expansion or equipment. We can also liaise with your accountant and solicitor to make the process smoother.
5. Investments
Can you offer investments that avoid interest or align with my values?
Yes. We can construct ethical or non-interest-based portfolios where required. We’ll build a diversified portfolio to suit your risk profile and your principles.
How do you match investments to my risk tolerance?
We start with a detailed risk assessment and use evidence-based investing to align your portfolio with your time horizon, goals and comfort with risk. We review regularly to keep it on track.
6. Tax & Practice Finance
Can you help me structure my income as a Limited Company?
Yes. We advise on tax-efficient structures, profit extraction and pension contributions for dentists who are self-employed or run their own companies. We’ll work alongside your accountant to implement changes.
What’s the most tax-efficient way to build retirement savings as a dentist?
We consider your NHS Pension allowances, private pension contributions, ISAs, and other savings vehicles to create a strategy that keeps your tax bill low while meeting your retirement goals.
7. About Our Service
What is the M4D Client Plan?
It’s our annual advice service designed specifically for dental professionals. It includes NHS Pension analysis, cashflow planning, tax and estate guidance, protection reviews and discounted fees on further advice.
How often will we meet?

Do you provide advice to my household members?
